First Ever Sports Sign-up Day

The second lunchtime of the year saw Years 9-13 students signing up for their sports. This was the first time Darfield High School had an event like this and we can definitely call it a success! Students flooded the hall prepared to sign-up for the sports they want to play. Music was playing in the back ground and there was a positive vibe throughout the hall. Ice-blocks were also given out to those lucky enough to be the third person on each sports list.
There were many sports on offer, some of the school’s traditional ones, like Rugby and Netball. However, we had several newer ones that gained a lot of interest, such as the Athletics club, Frisbee, Ki-O-Rahi and Touch.

Due to the large amount of interest, we are now planning to have a Frisbee, two Touch, two Indoor Football and Girls volleyball teams entered into the Canterbury Secondary School Summer Sports at Hagley and Hornby on Wednesday afternoons. We wish these teams the best of luck and further information will be realised prior to the first games beginning on the 15 February.

If you missed out on signing up for a sport, then either email ka@darfield.school.nz or headofsport@darfield.school.nz. We will still accept names for some sports until the 14 February. Or if you have any comments and ideas on how to make sign up day better then please email this to Caitlin Soal (Head of Sport).
