Ki O Rahi

Ki-O-Rahi is a relatively new sport to Darfield High School. We started with only a handful of students who were keen to try something new. In 2016, it has now grown to 22 students, which is two full teams. In 2017, we could be looking at having a third team enter the Secondary School Competition. We are seeking students who are open minded, committed and who want to try new things. Darfield went from getting 15th in the Canterbury Schools competition in 2015, to making it to the final the following year, unfortunately losing by one point, but still gaining second place. We also entered the Term 2 Winter Midweek Competition at Ara, run through TOAsports. This was a competition which involved playing against adults and was great for upskilling our students. We are a squad who is inviting and ‘social’ but also very competitive. All players have high expectations for the team, now knowing that we can take out the Secondary Schools Competition in 2017. We are also looking at attending the New Zealand Secondary Schools Ki O Rahi Tournament in the April Holidays.
